UN system in Nigeria holds remembrance for late UN staff

The United Nations System in Nigeria and representatives of the Nigerian Government have held a remembrance for 23 colleagues that died, following the bombing of the UN House in Abuja.

The unfortunate incident occurred on 26 August 2001 at 10:20 am precisely.

The event, which was chaired by the Resident Coordinator Dr. Edward Kallon and supported by Heads of UN Agencies, marks 10 years since the unfortunate loss of UN Nigeria colleagues in the bomb blast.

WHO lost three colleagues; Dr. Edward Dede, Mr. Yemi Osunsanya & Engr. Musa Ali.

The WHO says the memory is still fresh and WHO Nigeria reaffirms the commitment to the services of humanity even as it continues to stand with the families of the departed colleagues and prays that their souls continue to rest in peace.

“We remember them today for the ultimate sacrifice they made for humanity”. WHO said

The solemn event today witnessed the laying of wreaths and one minute of silence for the departed souls.
