Voice of Nigeria’s Destiny Onyemihia has been recognised among Africa’s leading development-focused reporters at the 2025 Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) Journalist of the Year Award.
Destiny who emerged Winner in the Radio Category, was selected from more than 25 entries submitted from across the continent.
This year’s winners distinguished themselves through the depth of their reporting, originality, and a strong commitment to spotlighting critical issues shaping Africa’s development narrative.
Submissions were received in the radio, television, print, and online categories, although no entries were submitted for the photo category.
According to the organisers, several entries did not meet the eligibility criteria.

The winners were unveiled during the Africa Conference on Development Journalism, held on 3–4 December 2025 in Kaduna state, Nigeria.
The conference brought together journalists, media leaders, and development stakeholders to examine the evolving role of journalism in promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable development across the continent.

Winners received plaques, while runners-up were presented with commendation certificates.

The AMDF Journalist of the Year Award celebrates outstanding reporting that addresses Africa’s development challenges while promoting transparency, good governance, and citizen engagement.
By recognising these achievements, AMDF aims to inspire more journalists to pursue impactful, solutions-driven storytelling that strengthens democracy and fosters social transformation.
Destiny Onyemihia continues to build on his impressive laurels as a journalist committed to reporting on developmental issues and underreported stories across Africa.
