Accreditation and voting have commenced in most polling units in Umuahia, Abia state, Southeast Nigeria.
Voice of Nigeria visited up to 20 polling units in Urban Ward 3 Umuahia where the Independent National Electoral Commission staff started accreditation of voters as early as 9.00 am, local time.
The low turn-out of voters
There was a noticeably low turnout of voters, compared to the last Presidential elections.
One of the voters attributed the number to the flawed process associated with the February 25 election.
About three of the polling units visited had no tables, as such could not commence voting. Some of the units visited include Amaonyekwere ward 018, 020 and 021. Also Ugwunchara primary school wards 025, 007, 006 and 026.
It’s expected that as the day progresses, more voters may likely turn out.
Voice of Nigeria reports that the election is taking place in 17 local government areas in the state with heavy security.
