Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo , serving and past governors, top Nigerian politicians, diplomats and legal luminaries are among personalities that are expected to grace the turbaning ceremony of Dr Alimi Abdulrazaq as the second Mutawali of Ilorin .
The ceremony which will be performed by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari will take place at the Emir’s palace square beginning at eleven o’clock in the morning.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday in Ilorin, Kwara State capital North Central Nigeria, the Chairman, Central Working Committee of the ceremony who is also a lecturer at the University of Abuja, Dr Yusuf Lawal disclosed that most of the dignitaries invited have signified their intentions to attend the event.
He disclosed that all arrangements have been concluded to have a hitch free programme.
According to him, the title of Mutawali that the Emir bestowed on Dr Alimi, a legal practitioner and the son of the late occupier of the position, Late AGF Abdulrazaq, SAN was not heredictory but rather an honor done by the Emir to the family and considering the pedegree of the new Mutawali which eminently qualified him for the honorary title.
According to him, the family of AGF Abdulrazaq would remain ever grateful to the Emir of Ilorin, the Ilorin Emirate Council, Kwarans and the entire nation for the honour done on Dr Alimi.
He assured the Emir, people of the Ilorin Emirate and the entire nation that Dr Alimi would further leave up to expectations and continue do his best to uplift the development of the Emirate and the state in general.
Dr Lawal appealed the people of the state to continue to remain hospitable, law abiding and accommodating which they are known for before, during and after the turbaning ceremony.
The chairman of the Committee added that the title of Mutawali is always bestowed on people the Emir has confidence and absolute trust for such as the Late and first Mutawali of Ilorin, AGF Abdulrazaq and the new Mutawali.
Other programmes lined up to mark the ceremony are prayers and sermons by various Islamic clerics.
Dr Alimi Abdulrazaq who is the eldest brother to the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq is succeeding his late father, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Folorunsho Abdulrazaq SAN , the doyen of of the legal profession in the Northern region who died sometimes in 2020.
