The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, says his government would engage all agitators in dialogue to end insurgency in Nigeria, if he is elected into office in February.

He disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja at the Presidential Town Hall Series 2023 organized by Channels Television, an independent media television channel based in Nigeria.

He attributed the insecurity being witnessed across the country to the neglect of some groups’ concerns.

To that effect, he promised that even cases that have been finalized in courts would be revisited.

“Communities need to be involved. I’m securing communities.

“In Anambra, what I did was to invite all the communities. I told them to set up vigilante services paid directly from my office.

“We can replicate that in all the states. We have to start somewhere first.

“Secure the people. You be alive before ammending the constitution,” Mr. Obi said.

On the issue of turning Nigeria into a production hub, he said that Nigerians would be encouraged to go into agriculture.

On the power sector, Mr. Obi said that he would declare “war” on power.

“Coming from the private secor, I understand the need to have more power to boost the economy.

“My government will tackle the issue of oil theft and reduce ‘financial rascality’.

“We need to go production, production and production,” he said.

While answering questions about fuel subsidy, the presidential candidate subscribed to its removal:

“It will go immediately. Nigeria will not continue to pay fuel subsidy to the detriment of other sectors.

“We have Dangote Refinery that is nearing completion. We will invest and complete it.

“We will sit down and talk with owners of illegal refineries and make them legal”

“Poverty is an organized crime and must not be allowed to continue,” he stressed.

Speaking on the issue of inclusion, Mr. Obi said he believes in inclusiveness and is willing to learn more about it.

“The job of a leader is the willingness to learn,” he noted.

Issues of education, economy, women in politics, health, people with disability and inclusion were addressed by the candidates.

The vice-presidential candidate of the party, Dr. Datti Baba Ahmed, also spoke on some of the ways the Obi-Datti government will address issues.

“The Obi-Datti administration would bring back medical doctors who have fled to other parts of the world to work in the country,” the LP vice-presidential aspirant said.
