The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Italian Frontera Verde Group have initiated a partnership to establish Care Centres across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The move followed a courtesy visit by the group to the Minister, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, in Abuja.

The collaboration aims to integrate women empowerment, enhance food security, and promote national development through a Partnership for Growth model.

The initiative will create pathways for women, families, and communities to access opportunities that transform lives through a partnership reflecting a shared vision to drive inclusive growth, strengthen livelihoods, and deliver impact where it matters most.

The Frontera Verde Group delegation led by its chairman, Aytac Demirbas, included Vice Chairman, Rabia Tekince and representative of MCM Investment Fund for Sustainable Projects, Joao Merolla.

The meeting focused on facilitating the establishment of care centres for women’s socio-economic empowerment.

The centres are to be developed as a joint venture between the Governments of Nigeria and Italy, with one in each of the six geopolitical zones, with the pilot phase scheduled to commence at the Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja.

Described as a bold step toward expanding the care economy, empowerment, security, and sustainable development, the initiative is expected to enhance socio-economic opportunities nationwide.

A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding involving the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the Italian Government represented by the Frontera Verde Chairman, and the Vice-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, will be signed on Monday, April 13, 2026.
