World Clean Up Day: Expert Mobilises Youths Against Environmental Pollution

Ahead of world international clean-up day, team of scientist, Geologist, environmentalist  and volunteer  climatologist has commenced a one week awareness campaign with students on the importance of cleaning up surroundings.
This is to avert the spread of tropical diseases  and other environmental disaster such as flood, water-borne diseases, malaria fever, Cholera  and other related diseases.

Director of African Climate reporters, Nurudeen Bello, said that the aims of the campaign was to raise awareness to the general public on the harmful effect of throwing away plastic trash and other garbage into the stream, drainages and rivers.

The Campaign which kickstarted on the 8th of September at the school premises, was expected to last for a week,while drawing the attention of all students and other residents to the importance of wearing face mask and respecting social distancing to avert the spread of Covid 19.
He said they were using social media to mobilise thousands of youths and women by sensitising them through their android phone on the importance of cleanliness of the environment.
We are going to use Facebook, Twitter, Instargram,Whatsapp, Badoo and other network. We are also going to use jingles, dramma to sensitise the public about the day.”
He said a clean and healthy environment  is very  vital for the growth and success of Wild Life, fruits, vegetables, and other species in the environment.
The environment around us is an essential part of human survival, which calls for a need to protect it through cleaning,” he stated.
He stressed that air and water pollution remained one of the most dangerous pollutions capable of endangering humans, animals and other living organisms.
He pointed out that On world cleaning which is scheduled for 18th of September, volunteers and partners worldwide will come together again to rid the planet of trash – cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from the beaches, rivers, forests, and streets.
“We are going to take the campaigns to mosque,churches,temples,markets,parks, Football view center so as to sensitise people.
Mallam Abdulhadi Mohammed,Head of Geography department, school of health science Kaduna said there was the need to train students on ways to protect their environment by regular cleaning up of their surroundings on a daily basis.
He said, a Clean Environment Is Essential for Healthy living, hence the need to raise more awareness to general public on the rangers associated with unkept environment.
The more you don’t care about our environment, the more it will become polluted with contaminants and toxins that have a harmful impact on our health. Air pollution can cause respiratory diseases and cancer, among other problems and diseases.
A healthy and clean environment will surely bring about a workforce with enhanced well-being. This will surely decrease the average number of leaves per worker in business thereby enhancing productivity,” he said.
Some of the school students that attended the workshop expressed delight and showed full commitment towards saving the environment.
