The World Rugby council has suspended the ban placed on the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) in 2021, over the dissolution of the board of the Federation by the Federal Government.

NRFF General Manager Azeez Ladipo, who is responsible for Nigeria Rugby’s strategic plan and implementation of policy decisions, said that the federation would start mapping out plans to ensure that the country returns strongly to the international scene as it waits for an official letter from the World Rugby body to that effect.

“The entire members of the Nigeria Rugby community are delighted at the lifting of the ban placed on Nigeria, last year,” Ladipo said.

“The lifting of the ban has given the nation once again the opportunity to take part in international championships. All our national teams will now have the opportunity to join their counterparts in the Rugby activities.”

According to reports, the World Rugby body reinstated the country as a full member, following a unanimous vote by the World Rugby council.

It would be recalled that the Rugby Africa last year banned Nigeria from taking part in international Rugby activities last year, following the termination of the NRFF’s board and other sports federations by the Sports Ministry and setting up a caretaker committee. And the decision was labelled interference by the Africa Rugby body.
