World Youth Skills Day: FCTA flags off free skills training

Authority of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has reiterated its resolve to significantly reduce youth restiveness and unemployment through requisite skills acquisition training for financial liberation in the territory.

 

The Secretary, FCT Education Secretariat, Sani Dahir El-Katuzu stated this during the official commissioning of Fashion Hub supported by Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA) and flagging off of Free Skills Acquisition Training at FCT Department of Mass Education, Wuse Zone 6 learning centre to commemorate World Youth Skills Day.

 

The Secretary advised the teeming youth and women in the FCT to embrace this gesture by the Minister of FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello and tap into series of skills acquisition trainings available at the Department of Mass education.

 

He also emphasized the need for everyone to be skill-full to successfully actualize sustainable economic development.

 

Also speaking, the Managing Director of Abuja Enterprise Agency (AEA), Mr. Shehu Abdulkadir advocated for more emphasis on requisite skills acquisition which according to him remains the major panacea to poverty eradication in the country.

 

He noted that, “The FCT Administration is making frantic effort to emphasize the importance of marketable skills acquisition training towards wealth creation and poverty eradication. We are very happy with this partnership with DME, that is the only way to go about it—synergy. They have the facilities, we provide the machines. We are determined to work together to achieve the FCT free of poverty and youth restiveness.” he promised.

 

Earlier, the Director, FCT Department of Mass Education (DME), Hajia Hajarat Titilayo Alayande commended the commitment of the FCT Administration under the leadership of Malam Muhammad Musa Bello to non-formal education as a very strong tool for job creation and poverty reduction in the FCT.

 

Mrs. Alayande urged the relevant key players in the non-formal education sector to prioritize sustained and result-oriented synergy to wipe out poverty in the FCT.

 

“If poverty must be a thing of the past in the FCT, all the major stakeholders in informal education industry must place premium on sustainable synergy. We are here today with the Management of Abuja Enterprise Agency to put our resources together to move FCT forward. The agency is supporting us with more sewing machines so that we can expand our activities in all our centres.” She said.

 

The Zonal Coordinator, Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Mrs. Victoria Nwaogu expressed the Department’s delight for the donation, noting that the Department of Mass Education has learners with quality content and assured that they will utilize the opportunity given to them and make FCT proud.

 

The highlight of the colourful event was the flag off of the free skills acquisition training by the secretary for Education for FCT, Sani Dahir El-Katuzu.
