X Plans to Request Service Restoration in Brazil

Elon Musk’s social media platform X will submit the documents requested by Brazil’s Supreme Court and seek to have its service restored in the country by Monday, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Access to X, previously known as Twitter, has been blocked in Brazil since late August following an order from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who has been in conflict with the platform over his investigation into “digital militias” accused of spreading hate messages in the country.

The dispute prompted X to close its offices in Brazil and terminate employees, including its legal representative, thereby violating local regulations. The platform could potentially become accessible again next week if it submits the required documents, sources said.

Last week, X’s legal team announced that a new legal representative had been appointed in Brazil, as ordered by the Supreme Court, but initially failed to submit documentation proving the representative’s authority to act on behalf of the company. The company now expects the issue to be resolved once the updated documents are provided.

Additionally, the sources revealed that X has started complying with other court demands, including blocking profiles accused of spreading misinformation and paying an 18 million reais ($3 million) fine through Musk’s Starlink accounts.

X is eager to mend its relationship with Justice Moraes and operate in Brazil like other tech companies, one source noted.
