Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced the near-completion of a major network upgrade project aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening power supply across its franchise areas.

The company said the comprehensive upgrade, being implemented in phases, is part of its strategic investment to ensure a stable, reliable and efficient electricity supply to homes and businesses.

According to YEDC, the project involves the replacement of obsolete recline cables, rehabilitation of transformers and other critical infrastructure to reduce downtime, minimise feeder faults and enhance overall network resilience.

Key components of the upgrade include the installation of high-capacity transformers to improve power distribution efficiency, deployment of advanced metering infrastructure to enhance billing accuracy and reduce technical losses, as well as the upgrading of distribution lines and poles to curb fault incidence and improve voltage stability.

YEDC noted that while the works are ongoing, some customers may experience temporary power interruptions due to the accelerated pace of construction aimed at fast-tracking project completion.

The company, however, assured customers that the upgraded network will result in improved power stability, reduced outage frequency and better customer satisfaction.

Speaking on the project, YEDC Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to quality service delivery.

We are committed to delivering high-quality electricity services to our customers. This network upgrade demonstrates our dedication to investing in infrastructure that supports economic growth and improves the quality of life for our customers. Customers should please bear with us during this rehabilitation, as they are about to smile,” she said.

The company said that the ongoing rehabilitation, which constitutes the first phase of the project, is on track for completion by December 20, ahead of the initial schedule.

YEDC expressed appreciation to customers for their patience and cooperation, assuring them of improved electricity services upon completion of the project.
