Yobe distributes farming tools to 1,000 families, IDPs

The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has officially flagged off the distribution of agricultural inputs to 1,000 farming households, including displaced residents of Mallam Dunari and their host communities.

The event, which took place on Monday at the Government House in
Damaturu was attended by development partners from the EU and Swiss government officials.

The distribution aims to bolster agricultural productivity and support the livelihoods of vulnerable households. Each beneficiary will receive insecticides, sprayers, hoes, and cutlasses for the rainy season, while dry-season farmers will receive water pumps, improved seeds, fertilisers, and other essential inputs.

“The people of Mallam Dunari are the only community remaining to be resettled; each beneficiary will go home with insecticide, knapsack sprayers, hoes, and cutlasses for rainy season farming, while dry-season farmers will get water pumps, improved seeds for onions, tomatoes, cabbage, pepper, rice, lettuce, and carrots, knapsack sprayers and watering pipes, fertilisers, among other things,” Buni emphasised.

Buni highlighted that his administration has invested over N4 billion in agricultural empowerment across 178 wards in the state. He noted that the government has procured tractors, fertilisers, and inputs to enhance productivity and food security.

The governor added that the Yobe government, in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, has supported 2,000 family households with additional farming inputs and livestock.

He also mentioned that farming communities have been trained in animal husbandry skills and will be supported with small ruminants to restore and sustain their livelihoods.

“This administration invested over N4 billion in agricultural empowerment across 178 wards in the state, including the procurement of tractors, fertilisers, and inputs to enhance productivity and food security.”

“As part of the implementation process for durable solutions and action plans, the Yobe government, in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, supported 2,000 family households from Geidam, Tarmuwa, and Damaturu with additional farming inputs and livestock.”

Muktar Dunari, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked and appreciated the state government for the support provided to the IDPs and host communities. He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs and avoid selling them and called on the people to rally behind Governor Buni’s programmes and activities.
