The National Youth Service Corps NYSC in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria has called for support towards sustaining the NYSC Health Initiative scheme for Rural Dwellers who cannot easily access healthcare.
This was contained in an address presented by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Mohammed Fadah, who was represented by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Mercy Dawuda during the Swearing-in ceremony of the 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream ‘1’ Corps Members at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, in the State.
Fadah commended the Corps Members for their graduation from various institutions of learning and subsequent mobilization for the National Service.
“I also commend your patriotism as demonstrated through your acceptance of your deployment and prompt report to the Orientation Camp”
He said the Orientation Course is the first Cardinal Programme of NYSC, aimed at introducing Corps members to the objectives and programmes of the Scheme. It is also designed to equip members for the tasks of the Service Year through lessons on Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, leadership coaching, paramilitary drills, and other physical training as well as sensitization on topical national issues.
Broader opportunity
The NYS boss enjoined corps members to utilize a lifetime opportunity by participating in all the Camp activities. As geared promotion of national unity and integration, which informed deployment away from your States of origin.
He said the policy offered the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country, entrenching the culture of working together in an atmosphere of friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.
Mr Fadah reminded corps members of the significance of the oath of allegiance to guide conduct in the Service Year as well as better understanding of the provisions of the NYSC Act and the bye laws.
He encouraged the youth to avail themselves with the opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme. The programme assisted corps members to choose any of the skill areas for training from the Orientation Camp.
Gratitude
The DG expressed profound gratitude to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for continued support towards the safe conduct of the Orientation Course.
He further appealed for the support of stakeholders in the call for the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund which has reached an advanced stage of legislation, as it will enhance the smooth operations of the Scheme, especially by addressing the challenges of infrastructure and providing start-up capital for corps members.
A total of 1337 Corps Members were Sworn- in, out of which, 233 are males while 1104 are females.
