The Archbishop of the Metropolitan Sea of Lagos, His Grace, Most Reverend Alfred Adewale Martins has called on intending political leaders in Nigeria to ensure that they will bring solutions to the major problems facing the country when elected.

The archbishop who made this known in Lagos during the thanksgiving mass of the Knights of St. John International and the 2022 Catechist Day urged the intending leaders to take their campaign promises seriously and ensure that it will not be business as usual.

He also used the opportunity to warn the youths to avoid being used for thuggery by politicians as electioneering campaign kicks off.

” I believe that any youths that is being recruited to participate in thuggery activities needs to ask the politicians if they included the names of their family members. It is wise you don’t allow yourself to fall a victim of such,” he stated.

Archbishop Adewale Martins also warned Nigerians not to sell their votes no matter the pressure saying that the only power they have to make a better country is their votes.

The voters card that we have are the power we have to make a difference. Anyone who agrees to sell his or her voters card is obviously mortgaging not only his future but the future of the future generations,” he re-emphasised.

The Supreme Subordinate President of the Knights of St. John International, Remy Uche called on religious leaders to preach more on the messages of peace, unity and love that can help reduce insecurity in the country.

Religious leaders should be able to take the messages of love, peace and unity to the people telling them the need to love one another. We are commanded by God to love our neighbors as ourselves, therefore, religious leaders should make it a priority to spread the message of love,” he said.

Credible Leaders
On their parts, the Supreme Subordinate Auxiliary President Nigeria, Chinwe Mgbabiaka and the Grand President of Knights of St. John International, Chux Amangbo urged Nigerians to vote for credible leaders that would remedy their dissatisfactions.

High point of the programme was the commissioning of about ninety Catechists.
