Comrade Jonathan Asake and Bashir Aliyu have emerged as the gubernatorial candidate and running mate of the Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State for the 2023 general elections.

In a primary substitution election that took place in Kaduna on Tuesday, the other governorship aspirant, Shunom Adiga, stepped down for

Delegates from the 23 local government areas of the State unanimously endorsed Asake.

While accepting to fly the party’s flag in the governorship election, Asake noted that the stepping down of the contestant was “a sign of their desire to form a government of unity, of stepping down all personal interest for the good of the public.”

He stressed that “we need men and women of courageous character that would put their interests below the general interest of the State and the country.

“If we have that, we will have good governance and unity among the people. Nobody will talk about the marginalisation of tribe, religion, section, or region.

“When leaders come on board and don’t have what to offer, they only come to pursue their interests they hide under religion, tribe or section or region.

“It’s what we don’t want because we want leaders that will come and ensure inclusiveness in governance, show justice to everybody, fairness to everybody and when a leader does that, there will be no problem in the State or country.”

The Labour party governorship candidate observed that Kaduna State had experienced a lot of destruction of lives and properties, so there is a need for a courageous leader to come on board.
