27 freed Kaduna College Students still undergoing rehabilitation – State Government

The Kaduna State Government says the 27 freed students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation are currently undergoing debriefing, medical checks, psychological evaluation and basic rehabilitation before they will be released to their parents.

The Kaduna state Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan explained that the clarification became necessary in response to enquiries from the state government as to when the students will rejoin their families.

Aruwan stressed that efforts are being made to ensure that all 27 students are in a satisfactory physical and mental state before they are handed over to their families.

He, therefore, appealed to families, friends and the general public to understand the plight of the students especially considering their difficult experience over the last seven weeks.

According to him ” If the first phase of checks is as successful as anticipated, the students will rejoin their families on Friday 7th May 2021.” 

Insecurity

In another development, the Kaduna state government has disclosed that a group of migrating persons sighted around Tafa village in Kagarko local government area, were identified by security agencies as a band of travelling herders.

The State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs explained that this followed several distress calls from citizens on the movement of armed bandits in the Lambata-Kabbo area of Tafa village, in Kagarko local government area.

Aruwan further explained that in response to the reports, troops and Police operatives were mobilized to the area for confirmation and possible engagement.

The Commissioner also said that “Troops trailed the group to an open field at Toba village, Tafa, Niger State. Upon confirmatory checks, it was discovered that they were herders in transit from Dobi in Gwagwalada (FCT) and Gawu-Babangida, Lambata (Niger State) to their original stations in Jos, Plateau State and Bauchi, Bauchi State.”

According to him,” A head-count was conducted by the troops, which revealed 53 herders in the travelling party: 9 adult male, 7 young male, and 37 women and children.

” A thorough inspection showed that they had three motorcycles, and no dangerous or incriminating materials were found in their possession,” he added

Mr Aruwan hinted that Governor Nasir El-Rufai on receiving the report thanked the troops for their prompt response in conducting the checks.

“He wished the herders a safe passage to their destinations,“ Aruwan noted.

The Commissioner also said that the State Government appreciates citizens’ responses and inquiries using the operations room numbers, 09034000060 and 08170189999, which are available 24 hours a day.
