The Nigerian Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has lauded the Naval Officers Wives Association, NOWA, for always standing in for the officers as they carry out their official assignments.
The Naval Chief made the commendation during the launching of the NOWA magazine in continuation with the activities marking the 59th Anniversary Celebration of the Association in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Represented by the Chief of Training and Operations, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferreira said that “NOWA have been sustained over the years by reaching out to the families while they are at sea, talking about reaching out to the larger society, vulnerable people in the society, and touching lives generally.”
He added that “through their prayers that this effort continues to be sustained as he congratulated NOWA for this anniversary.”
He noted that they watched some of the programs that have taken place in the past week, talking about breast cancer awareness, the medical rhapsody, and a seminar.
“And of course, we are here today to launch the magazine, which was done a few minutes ago. Personally, I am happy because the sleepless nights have come after today. I know the virtual meetings, I’m sleeping, I’m hearing meetings, I’m hearing good adverts, good this, good that, and it’s all over,” he said.
He prayed that the intent and purpose of the magazine will be realized by the special grace of God.
“We know a lot of work has gone into it, and may your labor not be in vain. I’m also to congratulate you all for this epoch-making anniversary.
“While we look forward to gathering again next year for your golden jubilee, I believe that 60 years is something which we are actually looking forward to, and we believe this will be well,” he added.
The President, Naval Officers Wives Association, Mrs. Ijeoma Ogalla, represented by the Vice President, NOWA, Mrs Zainab Akpan, said, “It is a remarkable milestone in the journey of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association, with the launch of their very own magazine titled “The Sailor’s Wife.”
According to her, this event signifies their shared commitment to supporting the welfare of their women, their members, and giving voice to the unique experiences, challenges, and triumphs of NOWA families across Nigeria.
She said that “the Sailor’s Wife is much more than a publication; it is a window into the strength, resilience, and aspiration of the naval community.
“It is a tribute to the spouses, mothers, and daughters who keep the whole front stable and strong while we are our lawful, serve and protect our nation.”
The magazine embodies stories that resonate with courage and purpose, qualities that are fundamental to each of us as we navigate the journey of life beside our dearest husbands. We have created this magazine to provide not only inspiration but also practical guidance on a range of topics relevant to our members and society at large.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Gbanga Daniel, represented by Special Security Adviser to the President on North East, Abiodun Essiet, applauded NOWA for the achievement and promised to support them after unveiling the magazine.
