The Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Disposal of Forfeited Assets fraudulently acquired by some previous government officials in Nigeria says about 2,000 people have bid for the sale of the assets forfeited to the government
Chairman of the committee, Dayo Apata disclosed this during engagement of bidders for the disposals of the asset in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.
According to Apata, his committee has identified assets to be sold in 25 locations across the country aside places facing security challenges.
“Estate surveyors and valuers had gone to see the forfeited assets in order to ensure they are sold at market value”, Apata said.
He added that the bid opening followed an advertisement placed on May 10, 2020, for bidders to show interest in auctioning the forfeited assets.
Transparency
Apata assured the public of transparency in the exercise and said the criteria set out by the 14-member of the inter ministerial committee will be strictly followed in the selection of the bidders.
He added that any estate surveyor or valuer who participated in the valuation of the properties to be sold will not be allowed to bid in line with international best practice.
“Even members of my committee will not to be part of the bidders”, he said.
It will be recalled that Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, inaugurated the Inter Minstrarial Committee on November 20, 2020.
