The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and Tobechi Achionye, a multi-talented autistic star popularly known as Kind Toby, are set to collaborate on the production of an autism advocacy film.
The partnership was agreed upon during a roundtable meeting between AGN and the young artists’ team on Saturday in Abuja.
According to both parties, the initiative aims to raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) while promoting acceptance, inclusion, and support for individuals living with autism.
AGN National President, Enema Rollas (MON), said the move aligns with the guild’s vision under his leadership to champion projects that foster inclusivity.
He noted that the project would serve as a platform to enlighten the public on both the challenges and unique strengths of individuals on the autism spectrum, as well as the experiences of their caregivers.
“We are excited to be in this collaboration, as Nollywood is not just about acting; it’s about reflecting society and inspiring change.
“Through inclusion, we give power to unseen voices and expand the creative richness of our industry.
“We are already aiming towards the World Autism Awareness Day in 2026, so we are going to come up with a very good storyline, make a film, and premiere it on that day,” he said.
Mrs. Noni Okocha, Chief Executive Officer of the “I am the Future of Nigeria Youth Initiative”, who led the Kind Toby delegation, said the project was apt and timely.
According to her, the project is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of individuals with autism, and to advocate for greater understanding and acceptance within society.
“Tobechi’s journey is a beautiful reminder that creativity knows no bounds.
“Our mission is to ensure that young people living with autism and other disabilities are seen, supported, and celebrated in the creative world.”
“The AGN and the I Am the Future of Nigeria Youth Initiative share a unified vision to make inclusion the new norm in Nollywood, championing empathy, access, and empowerment through film and storytelling.
“Together, we are leading a movement that celebrates ability over disability and uses art to open hearts, change perceptions, and build a kinder, more inclusive society,” she said.
