Akwa Ibom Executive Council Approves 11 Bills

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Umo Eno, has approved eleven executive bills for transmission to the State House of Assembly.

The meeting, held at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office in Uyo, is part of efforts to strengthen governance and accelerate development.

In his opening remarks, Governor Eno stated that the meeting, being the second held within one week was convened to review and consider Executive Bills across various sectors for onward transmission to the State House of Assembly.

The Governor stressed that his administration was intensifying efforts across all sectors to deliver on the ARISE Agenda and charged members to continue to give their best in service to the State.

The Council considered and approved eleven Executive Bills, covering critical sectors of governance and development.

These include the Akwa Ibom State Hotels and Tourism Development Commission Bill, the Lottery Regulatory Agency Bill, the Senior Citizens Centre Management Agency Bill, the Geographic Information Service Bill, and the Ibom Broadcasting Corporation Bill.

Others are the State Honours and Award Bill, Dakadda Skills Acquisition Centre Bill, Water User Association Bill, Office of the Public Defender Bill, Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Systems Agency Bill, and the Hospitals Management Board Amendment Bill.

The Council subsequently directed the transmission of the approved draft bills to the State House of Assembly for legislative action.

The approvals, according to the Council, are “driven by the need to strengthen institutional frameworks, enhance service delivery, and promote sustainable socio-economic development across Akwa Ibom State.”

It further noted that the proposed legislations are designed to strengthen key sectors such as tourism, broadcasting, healthcare, emergency services, and land administration, while expanding social protection through initiatives including the Senior Citizens Centre and the Office of the Public Defender.

In addition, the measures aim to improve legal and regulatory frameworks in areas such as gaming and water resource management, stimulate skills development and job creation, and promote transparency, efficiency, and good governance.”

The Council emphasised that the initiatives are “aligned with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda” and are intended “to position the State for inclusive growth and sustainable development of the State.”

The meeting had in attendance the Deputy Governor, Akon Eyakenyi; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Head of the Civil Service, Mrs Elsie Peters; Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Adviser, Aniefiok Johnson; the Dean of Commissioners, Mkpisong Frank Archibong; alongside other commissioners and special advisers.
