President Bola Tinubu in a notable move for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, has appointed Chief Basil Ejidike as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI) in Umudike, Abia State.
According to Pascal Candle, a prominent member of the party in the state, the appointment was announced in an official letter dated March 28, 2025. The letter was signed by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Candle shared this information with reporters on Friday in Awka, Anambra State.
The letter, signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, indicates that the appointment is a “call to national service” and takes effect from March 26, 2025. In his remarks, Chief Ejidike expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for the honor, calling it a commendable addition to the list of federal appointments for Anambra APC members.
He emphasised that this appointment reflects the president’s appreciation for the dedication of party members and reassured him of the unwavering support from the people of Anambra State and the APC state chapter. Ejidike also pledged to contribute to the realization of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to enhance national food security, empower farmers, and facilitate agro-economic transformation across Nigeria.
Ejidike added that through this appointment, President Tinubu continues to align his administration’s goals with experienced leadership in key agricultural sectors, reinforcing the strategic importance of agriculture in Nigeria’s economic growth.
The NRCRI, which Chief Ejidike will now oversee, is one of the country’s leading agricultural research institutions, focused on the development of root and tuber crops, critical to driving agricultural innovation and productivity.
