The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed two key nominees of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, approving the appointments of Tobechukwu Nweke as attorney-general and Izunna Okafor as commissioner for finance, in a move aimed at strengthening governance and accelerating development.

The confirmations followed a formal screening process during which lawmakers assessed the nominees’ professional competence, experience and willingness to contribute to the state’s growth.

Presiding over Tuesday’s plenary, the Speaker of the House, Somtochukwu Udeze, urged the appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering effectively in their respective offices. He stressed the importance of transparency, accountability and dedication to public service.

In his remarks, Nweke, a senior advocate of Nigeria, pledged to initiate reforms in the judicial sector, focusing on enhancing access to justice, strengthening legal institutions and upholding the rule of law.

Okafor, the newly confirmed commissioner for finance, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, promising to bring prudence, innovation and fiscal discipline to the management of the state’s finances.

In a related development, the assembly also approved the governor’s request to appoint up to 16 special advisers to support the administration in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
