The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has convened a high-level meeting with representatives of various security agencies to reinforce security measures across the state ahead of the November 8 governorship election.

The meeting, described as a “strategic situation room session,” was held at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters in the state capital, Awka, in line with directives from the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

Representing the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel, reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to delivering a peaceful, free, and credible election.

“This meeting is in furtherance of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security directives and in preparation for the forthcoming Anambra Governorship Election,” Ezekiel said.

“It provides a platform for strategic review and coordination of security arrangements to ensure seamless inter-agency collaboration, effective deployment, and intelligence sharing. Security during elections is a shared responsibility that requires professionalism, neutrality, and dedication.”

Representatives from the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Fire Service, and Correctional Service attended the meeting.

The agencies collectively pledged to work under the ICCES framework to protect voters, maintain public order, and respond swiftly to any security threats before, during, and after the polls.

According to police sources, the Situation Room established at the Command Headquarters will serve as the central hub for real-time monitoring, coordination, and response throughout the election period.
