The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, on Wednesday, produced a new cabinet at the party congress held in Akure, the State capital.
The rescheduled congress produced Mr. Kolawole Babatunde, a former member of the House of Representatives as the new chairman of the party in Ondo State.
The event, which attracted large turnout of party leaders and members was held under the observance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reflecting the party’s unity and organisation.
The exercise followed a reconciliation meeting initiated by the party’s national leadership following the cancellation of the first congress which was marred by litigations.
The court order has since been vacated, allowing the process to proceed peacefully.
In an acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman pledged to unite party members and ensure a level playing field in future activities of the party.
“My duty is very simple. It is to ensure that we work for the party and give the necessary support in ensuring that our agenda is realisable,” he said.
The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr Olayide Adelami who represented Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa, described the Congress as “a significant moment for the party,” noting that the orderly proceedings demonstrated the strength of the APC, despite recent challenges.
