Ahead of the Anambra State All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress, a joint delegation from the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has visited its Anambra State chapter to assess preparations and strengthen internal cohesion.

The delegation, comprising members of the NWC Screening Committee and the Local Harmonisation Committee, held consultations at the APC State Secretariat in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

According to a statement by the State’s Publicity Secretary, Chris Okey Udeze, the State Chairman, Sir Basil Ejidike, reaffirmed the chapter’s commitment to a transparent, peaceful and credible congress.

He stressed that internal unity and adherence to due process were essential to consolidating the party’s structures in the state.

Ejidike also expressed gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State for supporting the process, describing his financial support as a sign of solidarity and shared responsibility within the party’s leadership.

Peaceful Congress

Representing the chairman of the State Harmonisation Committee, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Senator Emma Anosike said the visit formed part of a broader national effort to ensure uniform standards and compliance with party guidelines across Nigeria.

He assured the delegation that the congresses in Anambra would be conducted in an orderly manner.

Anosike disclosed that an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting had been held at the same venue a day earlier.

The session, he said, brought together key party figures to address grievances, reconcile differences and prevent factional disputes.

The consultations, according to him, helped ease tensions and laid the foundation for a consensus-driven and inclusive congress process.

Speaking on behalf of lawmakers who recently defected to the APC, Paul Obi, one of five members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, pledged loyalty and cooperation.

He said their defection was motivated by a desire to expand the party’s grassroots base and reposition it as a competitive political force in the state.

Chairman of the Congress Committee, Solomon Golley, commended what he described as a calm and well-organised atmosphere in Anambra, particularly in contrast to reported tensions in some other states.

He urged party leaders to sustain unity and internal democracy throughout the exercise.
