The Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, has reaffirmed military’s readiness to protect civilians as he made a high‑impact operational visit to the Chanchanji area of Takum Local Government Area of Taraba state in North East Nigeria.
The visit, carried out under Operation Zafin Wuta, follows a spate of attacks that left several Tiv‑origin farmers dead and forced dozens of families to flee their homes.
During the visit, Brigadier General Uwa led troops on a fighting patrol across flashpoints and key access routes linking farmlands in the affected communities.
The patrol was intended as a clear warning to criminal elements while reassuring residents of the military’s firm control and readiness to thwart further violence.
The operation forms part of broader clearance efforts across southern Taraba aimed at stabilising the region.
At the Chanchanji Market Square, the commander met with displaced residents and farmers who expressed deep concern about returning to their fields.
Villages such as Ayu, Dooshima, New Gboko, Adu Tyopaa, Peeki and Tyojande remain largely abandoned after the recent attacks, despite a productive farming season.
In response, Brigadier General Uwa directed troops to provide continuous security cover for the harvest period and approved sustained farm patrols before, during and after the harvest in all affected villages.
He urged soldiers to uphold professionalism, vigilance and respect for human rights, emphasising that strong civil‑military cooperation is essential for lasting peace.
Community leaders thanked the commander for his timely intervention, noting that the visit has restored hope and encouraged many to resume farming activities.
The Nigerian Army, through 6 Brigade, reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and livelihoods, ensuring that law‑abiding citizens within its area of responsibility can live and farm without fear.
