Association Call On Government to Boost Agriculture

The president of the All Farmers Association Of Nigeria, AFAN, Architect Kabir Ibrahim Faskari, has urged the Nigerian government to promptly intervene and engage directly with farmers to enhance agriculture nationwide.

Architect Faskari, recognized for his documentation of agricultural progress in Nigeria and beyond, praised the country’s strides in agriculture over the years.

He highlighted several government initiatives like Operation Feed the Nation, Green Revolution, APP, and NATIP, aimed at increasing agricultural productivity.
He noted a substantial rise in awareness about Nigeria’s agricultural potential since 2008.

Nevertheless, the President of All Farmers Association emphasized various “obstacles impeding agricultural development, including insecurity, power shortages, climate change, transportation challenges, insufficient mechanization, lack of quality seeds, and inadequate data and research.”

Arch Ibrahim, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s agricultural reform, stressed the necessity of direct government engagement with farmers through their associations, urging for subsidies akin to those in other nations.

He shared that AFAN has established a committee to address pressing challenges faced by farmers and foster mutual understanding between farmers and pastoralists nationwide.

Commending President Bola Tinubu’s proactive approach to addressing farmers’ concerns, the association president advocated for the implementation of promises outlined in the President’s agricultural manifesto.

They also called for support in repaying loans from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s anchor borrowers scheme to benefit more farmers.

Furthermore, The President of All Farmers association of Nigeria, expressed support for livestock reforms and underscored the importance of a united farmer voice, aligned with AFAN, to effectively communicate with the government and achieve common objectives in the agricultural sector.
