Paramount Ruler in Benue State, the Tor Tiv, James Ayatse, has dismissed claims that the violence in Benue State is rooted in clashes between herders and farmers, describing such assertions as misleading and inaccurate.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during ongoing consultations between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and key stakeholders from Benue State, aimed at addressing the escalating security challenges in the region.
Ayatse noted that such narratives have encouraged calls for the Benue people to be patient and accommodating.
He emphasised that the killings represent a deliberate, well-organised, large-scale genocidal attack and land-grabbing effort in the state, carried out over decades by “herder terrorists and bandits.”
