The Force spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi issued this warning in a statement on Sunday, in reaction to the alleged spreading of fake Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) results of elections on social media by members of the public.

The police, therefore, urged Nigerians to instead, wait for the official results of the Presidential and National Assembly Elections to be announced by INEC.

According to him, the police consider the spread of news about election results not announced by INEC as a calculated attempt to heat up the polity and possibly create post-elections chaos.

“We have observed the spreading or circulation of alleged/fake election results on social media and other news platforms, which is contrary to the policy and guidelines of INEC.

“We regard this as a disservice, unpatriotic, and disinformation”.

“The Nigeria Police hereby warns those who are spreading these alleged/fake election results to desist from such mischievous acts and wait patiently for INEC’s official results, which are authentic and tenable,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to remain calm, and go about their lawful engagements, while those billed to go on election duty on Sunday should be orderly.

“You should be law-abiding as we have re-enforced our security strategies for the smooth conclusion of the 2023 General Elections,” he said.

The returning officer, Adams Baba who declared the result inconclusive in Kabba on Sunday said the difference in the results between Salman Idris of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kolawole Matthew was not up to the number of registered voters in the cancelled polling units.

Kwara: INEC cancels election result from Tsaragi Polling Unit

0

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) in Kwara State has cancelled election results from Tsaragi polling Unit 10 of Edu local government area of the state.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kwara, Attahiru Madami, told newsmen on Sunday that the cancellation was due to the snatching of ballot boxes by hoodlums during last Saturday’s  Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The REC explained that the cancellation was in line with the rules guiding the conduct of the general election adding that out of 2,887 polling units in Kwara State, only one polling unit had its ballot box snatched.

He refuted the claim that the commission used vehicles belonging to one of the political parties involved in the election to distribute electoral materials.

Answering questions from Journalists, Madami attributed the late arrival of INEC personnel, and materials on Saturday to some parts of the Ilorin West local government area and subsequent the commencement of voting hitches at the Registration Area Centre (RAC) to logistics which led to the extension of voting to 6 pm in the evening.

“It took us up to 11 a.m. before we finished the distribution of logistics and immediately I knew we are starting late. I extended the time of voting until the last person in queue voted, he added.

Burna Boy break this silence on Sunday 26th February, on his Instagram account to call on INEC to let the will of the people prevail in the 2023 national elections.

According to his post,

“Let Nigeria decide o! @inecnigeria. No try any result magic,”

Nigerians went to the polls on Saturday, 25th February 2023 to vote for a new president and National Assembly members.

The elections which have been described as the most important since 1999 have 18 candidates vying to replace the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari.

The three frontline candidates are the All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu, People’s Democratic Party candidate Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party candidate Peter Obi.

The election has witnessed allegations of violence, voter harassment and intimidation, and rigging in multiple states.

Burna Boy criticised for staying silent: Burna Boy alongside other artists has been called out on Twitter by some users for their silence during the electoral process. Burna Boy has been in the line of fire, especially as his music often touches on the plight of Nigerians and many expected him to be vocal during the electoral process.

His last album ‘Love, Damini’ had a track titled ‘Common Person’ in which he talk about the lives of the common man in Nigeria. Most of the criticism coming his way stems from the fact that he has failed to walk the talk in the opinion of many listeners.

Burna Boy’s statement to INEC is in line with the wish of the well-meaning Nigerians who are calling on the electoral umpire to ensure that the will of the people prevails.
