Borno State partners with Cameroon on repatriation of IDPs

The Borno State government in Nigeria is partnering with Cameroon to repatriate internally displaced persons back to their ancestral home

The Executive Secretary of the Forum of Governors, members states of the lake chad basin commission, who is also the governor of the far-North region of Cameroon, Mijinyawa Bakari, led a 19-member delegation on a courtesy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum the governor of Borno State.

Mr Bakari who spoke during the gathering said, We are here to see the possibilities of restoring peace and resettling displaced persons seeking refuge in the member countries of lake chad

“let me also use this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to Governor Zulum for a good reception accorded to me, and also thank and appreciate the immense efforts of Nigerian President, President Muhammadu Buhari and President Paul Biya for their un-relented fight against Trans-boarder security as well as making sure we have a good working relationship” 

The main object of our working visit comes as a follow-up to the resolutions of the last Session of the Forum of Governors of the Member States of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, which took place last year. 

Governor Zulum, thanked Governor Bakari, stating that the Cameroonian government had been helpful in the past years in managing our indigenous citizens who are seeking refuge in the far north region of Cameroon

He pledged his total commitment to finding a lasting solution for the long lingering problem of insurgency

“Last year, when we repatriated our refugees back to Banki community in Bama local Government area, Cameroonian Government through your good office as Governor and Far-North Region has assisted us with over 100 vehicles, food and non-food items which helped in the stabilization and restoration of their means of livelihood.

“The crisis in the region is enormous that requires enough resources to mitigate, and with the improved peace, we call on all and sundry to come to our aid in this trying moment.

“I am hopeful this Technical Review Meeting, TRM will usher a new course for strengthening our Internal reintegration, enhance border security and reopen markets for sustainable development. The Governor added.
