The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced a significant increase in prize money for CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, with President Dr. Patrice Motsepe confirming a combined $4 million boost for the winners.
Under the new structure, the winner of the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League will receive $6 million, representing a 50% increase, while the champion of the CAF Confederation Cup will earn $4 million, a 100% increase in prize money.
CAF said the adjustments are part of broader efforts to strengthen African club football and improve financial support for teams across the continent.
Since Motsepe assumed office as CAF president in 2021, prize money for the Champions League winner has risen from $2.5 million to $6 million, marking a 140% increase.
Over the same period, the Confederation Cup winner’s prize has jumped from $1.25 million to $4 million, a 220% increase.
With the latest adjustment, total prize money and solidarity payments distributed to African clubs will exceed $42 million per season, a 123.4% rise compared to the $18.8 million allocated in 2021.
Motsepe has repeatedly emphasised CAF’s commitment to making African club football more competitive globally. In August 2024, the organisation introduced $50,000 in financial support for clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds of both competitions.
That amount was doubled to $100,000 in 2025, providing additional support to participating teams.
CAF said the increased financial incentives have contributed to a record 130 clubs from across Africa registering for the 2025/26 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup season, reflecting growing interest and competitiveness in the continent’s premier club competitions.
