World football governing body, FIFA, has confirmed that Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be deployed for the highly anticipated African World Cup playoffs.

The decision aims to ensure fairness and accuracy in officiating during the crucial qualification matches that will determine Africa’s additional representatives at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria, Gabon, Cameroon, and DR Congo are the four nations battling for the remaining slots. In the semi-final fixtures, the Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Panthers of Gabon, while DR Congo will lock horns with Cameroon in the other semi-final encounter.

The final, which will decide the last African team to book a ticket to the global showpiece, is scheduled for Sunday, November 16.
