In a defeat that will haunt the Pride of Rivers for seasons to come, Nigerian club Rivers United capitulated in the most painful fashion as they conceded two late goals, falling 2-1 to Moroccan side RS Berkane in their CAF Champions League encounter on Friday.

At the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, what was meant to be a vital home win to kickstart its continental campaign after an opening day loss, transformed into a staggering stoppage time collapse.

Rivers United took the lead in the 37th minute, when defender Lamine Mamadou Camara turned the ball into his own net, giving the Nigerian side early momentum.

However, the Moroccan visitors mounted a remarkable late push, as Youness El Kaabi drilled in the equaliser after a scramble in the box. 1-1!!!

The visitors then completed the turnaround when Mounir Chouiar’s composed finish from a distance stunned the home fans at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

The sensational comeback lifts RS Berkane to the top of Group A, while George Finidi’s men are rooted to the bottom of Group A with zero (0) points after two games.

The two late goals after defensive howlers gifted Moroccan side RS Berkane, a crucial away CAF Champions League victory.
