The grand finale of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally for the re-election of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has held in Osogbo. The rally took place at the Osogbo Township Stadium on Tuesday, witnessing a convergence of APC stalwarts across the country.
The chieftains were on hand to drum support for Oyetola to win Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Among those present was the National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.
Also in attendance were governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak of Kwara, Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Abdulahi Ganduje of Kano; Prof. Babagana Zulum of Borno and Babjide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos.
Others in attendance were former APC national chairman Adams Oshiomhole and many others.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Chairman of Nigeria’s Progressives Governors’ Forum, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, assured Nigerians that Oyetola had the backing of all APC governors because of his outstanding performance in the state.
Bagudu said the landmark achievements of Governor Oyetola were visible for all to see and then urged the people to vote massively to return him to office.
He said: “We are pleased to be here today; we are proud to hear about the many signs of progress that this administration in Osun has recorded.
“We are assuring the citizens of Osun that this gentleman Governor will continue to do what is healthy for our democracy. He did not disappoint in the first term; he won’t disappoint in the second term,” he added.
In his remarks, the National Chairman of the Party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, said the mega rally was a sign that the APC was not taking any chances with the affairs of Osun.
Adamu said: “This is a mega rally to promote our candidate. We are taking no chances with the affairs of Osun because the state deserves a leader like Oyetola in its quest for development. Therefore, we have come in full strength to support him to ensure his re-election.”
The Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan, also lauded Oyetola’s prudence and efficiency in managing the state’s meager resources.
He called on Osun residents to look beyond political sentiments in their choice of whom to elect and to vote massively for Oyetola.
“I’m bringing solidarity from the National Assembly. We are believers of this party and its candidate because Osun has witnessed a serious and massive transformation in the last three and a half years,” Lawan said.
The presidential flag-bearer of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, charged the people of Osun to replicate the victory recorded last month in Ekiti.
He said: “We ask that you vote massively on Saturday for APC, not as a mark of entitlement but because of your children’s future.
“Before you make your decision, think of the future. We are a party that guarantees your future because we are known for fulfilling our promises.
“Let us entrust the affairs of our state into the hands of those who mean business, not mushroom parties,” he added.
In his short remarks, Governor Oyetola said Osun was on the path of history by consolidating on the gains of the last three and half years.
He urged the people of the state, especially workers, to shun political traducers, peddling falsehood that he would renege on his commitment to their welfare if re-elected, saying he remained strongly committed to their welfare.
Oyetola also declared his readiness to do more than he did in his first term, noting that the welfare of workers and citizens and the overall development of Osun State remained his priority.
