The Head of NAPTIP in Kebbi State, Misbahu Iya Kaura, presented the children to Governor Nasir Idris, seeking his permission for the reunion.

According to Misbahu Iya Kaura, the Agency had rescued all 19 children from Calabar and other parts of the Niger Delta, and had apprehended those involved in their abduction.

The case is currently in court, and the nine children who testified were reunited with their parents.

NAPTIP’s investigation revealed that human traffickers have agents in Zuru who deceive parents into releasing their children for supposed schooling purposes in Gusau Zamfara state capital.

The children are then trafficked to Calabar, sold into slavery for between N280,000 and above, and have their names changed to avoid detection.

Governor Nasir Idris directed NAPTIP to sustain its enlightenment programs against child and human trafficking, warning that the government would prosecute those involved in such activities, even to the Supreme Court.

He also cautioned parents against being accomplices in child trafficking, stating that those found guilty would face prosecution.

As a gesture of support, the government will provide N100,000 cash to each of the nine reunited children, as well as assistance to their parents and the District Head to travel back to their homes.

Additionally, Governor Idris directed the SSG to include NAPTIP among the beneficiaries of monthly allowances provided to security agencies for operational functions.
