The Gombe State Police Command has recorded successes again, with the arrest of 23 cultists, who are suspected of terrorizing the people of Malan-Inna quarters and other parts of Gombe town.
The police said in a statement that the Police Tactical Teams from Gombe Divisional headquarters, arrested the suspects on August 1, 2022, at about 1:00 am, when they raided the criminal hideouts within Malan-Inna quarters of Gombe and recovered 15 machetes, 2 long daggers, 1 axe and 5 sticks.
The statement said all the suspects had confessed to the crime, investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would soon be charged to court for prosecution.
Robbery Of Farm Inputs
In another development, the Police in Gombe arrested four suspects in Kuri town; Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of the State, in connection with an attempt to rob farm inputs provided by the government to some beneficiaries of the Gombe State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, GO-CARE, after Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya flagged-up the programme in Kuri.
According to the Police, the suspects attempted to forcefully steal the remaining materials but were prevented by the Police
It also said the suspects, however, mobilised youths and barricaded the road at a bridge outside the town, and started stoning the vehicles going out of the town adding that they confessed to the crime, investigations were ongoing and they would soon be charged to court for prosecution.
Counterfeiting
Similarly, one 31-year-old Mustapha Adam Usman of Shagari Quarters in Kano State was arrested in connection with the offence of being in possession of counterfeit materials and cheating. Mr Mannir Mohammed of Pantami Quarters, Gombe, who operates a POS business, reported to the Pantami Police Division that on July 27, 2022, at about 9 am, the suspect, Mustapha gave him the counterfeit materials to deposit into an account he gave him.
He said the suspect went away with a promise to come back, only for the complainant to discover that the two wraps were counterfeit.
The statement said the case had been transferred to the State CID for discrete investigation and would soon be charged to court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ishola Babaita, had therefore appealed to all peace-loving citizens of Gombe State to continue to partner and co-operate with the command, by providing credible information about the activities of criminals.
He reassured the people of Gombe State that the command would not tolerate any kind of thuggery or radicalism before, during and after the electioneering campaigns, while urging parents and guardians to warn their children or wards against any wrongdoing.
