Cross River State PDP Governorship Candidate Picks Broadcaster as Running Mate

The Cross River State Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Sandy Onor has picked ace broadcast journalist, Mrs. Emana Ambrose-Amawhe as his running mate for the 2023 elections.
Professor Onor, who is the senator representing central senatorial district, presented his running mate to party faithful at the PDP secretariat in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.
Onor hinted that the decision to select Mrs. Amawhe was arrived at sequel to due consultations with stakeholders across board.
“Let me announce to you that on taking this decision, every section of the party was thoroughly consulted. We came to the conclusion that there was need to strengthen our decision. You cannot adequately mobilize without the strength of a woman.
“We have been looking for ways and means of changing the narratives. Since late Cecilia Ekpenyong had a short sting, we have never carried our women along. We have concluded to pick a woman to fill the position of deputy governor.
“Women must also be integrated to take their pride of place. We needed a woman, who is young to appeal to the youths. We wanted a woman with deep intellect, a woman, who is humble enough and determined to work with us.
“And we found a princess. She has the momentum. She has the resilience for the task ahead. She contested this position with other men. All of them were very qualified. In life you must seek the good in every man because perfection only belongs to God,” Onor said.
Embodied capacity
Responding, the broadcaster, who was a staff of Channels Television, Mrs. Amawhe formally accepted the position and sued for the support of all the people to enable PDP win the 2023 elections.
Amawhe commended the part leadership for the confidence reposed in her and assured of her unalloyed loyalty and resolve to mobilize the electorate, especially women, to vote massively for the party.
She assured, “I am an embodiment of competence, capability and capacity. This I demonstrated in the just concluded House of Representatives primary election that was one of the most tensed elections because I was contesting against an elder, one of our leaders and a 5 term member of the House of Representatives. Although, he won, I was his nearest rival in the election.”
Meanwhile, the state party chairman, Mr. Venatius Ikem officially received some former members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, into the PDP.
Background
Mrs. Emana Ambrose-Amawhe is the first female deputy governorship candidate to be selected by any political party in Cross River State.
She contested and lost the recent House of Representatives primary for the Bakassi/Akpabuyo/Calabar South Federal Constituency on the platform of the PDP were she polled 23 votes against the 57 of the incumbent Honourable Member, Mr. Essien Ayi.
If PDP wins the governorship election next year, Amawhe will be the second female deputy governor of Cross River State after the short rule of late Mrs. Cecilia Ekpenyong, who served alongside Dr. Clement Ebri in 1992.
