Diaspora Commission, Technical Aid Corps collaborate to enhance efficiency

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has expressed the need to deepen inter-agency collaboration with the Directorate of Technical Aid Corps (DTAC) to enhance efficiency, in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This was disclosed  during a courtesy visit by the Director General of the Directorate, Yusuf Buba Yakubu, to NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa in her office, in Abuja.

The NIDCOM Chairman reiterated the need to strengthen Diaspora Communities to ensure the well-being and adequate integration of labour migrants into their host societies.

“The key thing is to brief the Volunteers before they depart the country on how to relate with their host countries and Nigerians in those countries”, she stated.

On his part, the DTAC boss while re-emphasizing the need to close the gap between Nigerian missions and its global Diaspora Community, called for complete change of mindset in dealing with the Diaspora and the urgent establishment of Desks Offices in Foreign Missions.

“When we deploy volunteers for soft power, we are adding to the Diaspora you deal with. Therefore, there is a lot of work to do together especially to ensure that they portray a good image of the country abroad,” he said.

Technical Aid Corps is an agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is Nigeria’s soft diplomacy in which Nigerian professionals are sent overseas to engage in Volunteer Work. It was established in 1985 under President Ibrahim Babangida.
