The ECOWAS Commission has reaffirmed its strong commitment to modernising Customs administrations and facilitating regional trade by showcasing the Interconnected System for the Management of Goods in Transit, SIGMAT.

The ECOWAS Commission showcased the management system at the 2026 World Customs Organisation Technology Conference, in Abu Dhabi with the theme Customs agility in a complex world: securing and facilitating trade through innovation.

The Commission highlighted SIGMAT as a flagship regional digital solution designed to enhance end-to-end transit management, strengthen cross-border interoperability, reduce trade frictions along key regional corridors and reinforce trust between customs administrations and economic operators, in full alignment with international standards and ECOWAS Vision 2050.

Liberia, Ivory Coast and Guinea have launched the ECOWAS SIGMAT platform which is a great step towards modernising cross border trade.

The ECOWAS technical session in Monrovia, Liberia, is the platform aimed to digitised Custom activities, operations, enhance transparency and streamline the movement of goods across West Africa.
