Animal merchants in Niger state north central Nigeria have lamented the activities of animals Rustling and insecurity affecting Ram and other animals for the Ed -el Kabir festivities.
Abdullahi Bosso , a dealer in Bosso animal market in Minna the state capital mentioned to Voice of Nigeria that most of the animals merchants from far north couldn’t make it to Niger state and other parts of the country due threatening by attackers.
Bosso said the business last year was far better than this year.
“Last year we sold an average of 200 rams daily in this market alone, apart from those on the emergency road side markets scattered across the town”. added Bosso
Abdullahi Bosso, further said apart from insecurity issues, paucity of funds from the people within has also affects the smooth running of the business this year.
“The biggest Ram last year was sold for N250,000, while a similar one is now placed at less than amount ,yet people are not willing to buy”.
He said the activities of bandits have really create a setback for animal merchants from rural areas to the state capital and other cities the state.
The Niger state government has recently signed a death sentence by hanging for kidnapping or animal Rustling as a measure to curtail the ongoing insecurity threatening the peaceful coexistence of the State.
