Two governorship aspirants of Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Ekiti State governorship primary election have appealed to the party’s leadership to ensure that the primary election is free and fair.
The All Progressives Congress, APC has fixed January 27, 2022 for the Ekiti governorship primary election.
While speaking with journalists at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, one of the aspirants, Mr. Demola Popoola said he is comfortable with any mode of primary the party decides to use.
He also added that he will not step down for any other aspirant.
“The party has not communicated it to us which mode of primaries it will be using for the election. Whether direct or indirect, I am ready.
“By the grace of God I am the leading constestant in Ekiti state. You can go and confirm it. So we are not afraid of anything. All I am saying is the party should please allow free and fair elections, protect our votes. They should not allow the thugs to come and hijack our votes. My people are ready to go out and vote their minds, they are not ready to sell their conscience. That is the true.”
“Governor Kayode has not called me once to say Demola step down. Never! He never! All he tells me is, ‘all I want is who will win the election for APC in Ekiti. I am not going to stop anybody. So the story of annointed, he has refuted so let us take it that way. So I am not anybody annointed and I will not step down for anybody. Not for $200 billion” Popoola said.
Speaking separately, the second aspirant, Mr. Oluwatoyin Afolabi after submitting his nomination forms said he has developed a document based on his experiences in the United States of America to move Ekiti state forward if given an opportunity.
Mr. Afolabi said inspite of him being a newcomer in the race, he knows that from the results of the polls he has taken, the Ekiti people trust him to make a difference in the state.
My people will listen to me. When I carry my messages across to them, them know that most of the people that are coming are liars. They know they have said more than that before. There is an opportunity of not believing in what they are saying but believing in a fresh Comer. They have the trust in me from all the internal poll that I have taken. They have the believe that we need someone who is fresh to the system not somebody who has been there and lying to them after taking one or two things from the government. My position is not going to be that way. I will be very sincere . There will be accountability in my system, transparency, and honesty to prevail all the time. Ekiti people will trust me” Afolabi said.
