Some Enugu state residents have applauded Gov. Peter Mbah’s administration over the prompt and daily evacuation of wastes from the refuse dump sites in the state.

A cross section of residents in Enugu state, said the state was cleaner as refuse no longer littered the streets of the capital city.

Mr Okwy Dim, a resident of Achara Layout, expressed excitement over the new method of waste evacuation in the state.

Dim applauded the governor for providing garbage compactor trucks for waste evacuation in the state, adding that the availability and use of the trucks had made the evacuation job easier for the workers that clear the waste properly.

“I am so happy for what the governor of Enugu State is doing; especially in making sure that our environment is clean on daily basis through the daily prompt evacuation of the waste at every refuse dump site in the state,” he said.

A resident of Uwani, Miss Ngozi Ozor, said, that with the daily evacuation of waste in the state, the residents would be willing to pay their sanitation levies to the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA).

“When government begins to make good use of our taxes just like Mbah is doing, people will be happy and will also be willing to pay whatever they are asked to pay for the betterment of the state,” she said.

Mrs Oge Muoma, a nurse, said that with the daily evacuation of waste at the dump sites, health hazards would be minimised among the residents.

“Non-constant evacuation of waste at the dump sites is not good for human health, especially for those living around the refuse dump site, because it poses serious health hazard to the residents.

“But with the use of the garbage compactor trucks and the daily evacuation of the refuse by Mbah’s administration, the environment is now becoming clean and diseases from refuse will be minimised,” Muoma said.

A resident of Zik Avenue, Mr Chuks Nwankwo, said that clearing of waste on daily basis was part of the development the citizens were expecting from the government.

“This is one of the most important duties the residents are expecting the government to carry out in the state, because we all need to live in a clean environment in order to remain healthy.

“Since our governor has started well by keeping the environment clean, I urge everyone to always pay their taxes for more development to come,” he said
