A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed March 29 and 30, 2026, for the party’s National Convention, following what it described as wide consultations with stakeholders.

The National Chairman of the PDP faction, Abdulrahman Mohammed, announced the dates in Abuja after the first meeting of the party’s National Caretaker Committee for the year.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, Mohammed dismissed claims of division within the party, insisting that the PDP remains united under his leadership.

“There is no division in the PDP under my leadership. The PDP is united. We are working towards a peaceful and all-inclusive national convention.

Our members are following developments and know that we are genuinely working to reposition the party,” he said.

He added that the caretaker committee is committed to bringing all members together and preparing the party for future electoral contests.

According to him, the committee is operating strictly in line with the PDP constitution and relevant electoral laws to ensure an inclusive, transparent, and credible national convention.

Also speaking, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, explained that one of the key decisions taken at the meeting was a slight adjustment to the convention dates earlier announced.

He recalled that during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday, the national convention was initially scheduled for March 28 and 29, 2026.

“However, after careful consideration of certain factors, the date has been adjusted to March 29 and 30, 2026,” he said.

Jungudo further disclosed that the NEC Working Committee has dissolved the North-West, South-West, and Plateau State Zonal Committees of the party, adding that caretaker committees would be appointed for the affected zones.

He noted that the timetable earlier approved by NEC for ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses remains unchanged and will take effect as scheduled.

The National Caretaker Working Committee, he added, will consult widely before announcing the membership of the National Convention Planning Committee.

“These are the major resolutions reached at today’s National Caretaker Working Committee meeting,” he said.
