A two-day Health Sector Joint Annual Review and Performance Dialogue for 2025 has commenced in Abuja, the nation’s capital, to enhance the healthcare system.

The annual dialogue performance review evaluates the FCT health sector performance for 2024 and the first quarter of 2025 on key indicators and progress against milestones.

While declaring the event open, the Federal Capital Territory Mandate Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, urged all participants to engage constructively in open discussions, provide evidence-based contributions, and commit to actionable recommendations that can directly impact the quality of healthcare delivery in the FCT.

Dr Fasawe was represented by the Acting Director General of the Hospital Management Board, Dr Amadu Abubakar. She revealed that “the joint annual review is a critical aspect of our governance framework.”

“It provides a unique opportunity for all stakeholders to evaluate our progress, identify bottlenecks, and recommend actionable solutions in line with the health sector strategic blueprint and the National Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative”

Also, the Permanent Secretary, Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Dr Babagana Adams, noted that the annual gathering remains a vital platform for reflection, accountability, and planning for the FCT collective effort to build a resilient and sustainable health system for the capital city.

Dr Dan Gazama also represented Dr Adams. He explained that “the joint annual review provides us an opportunity to reflect on our achievements, confront our challenges, and chart a bold pathway forward. Also, this strategic dialogue allows us to review the progress made against a target.”

While briefing journalists, the Acting Director of Health Planning, Research and Statistics in the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Teresa Nwachukwu, said the purpose of the Joint Annual Review is for the health secretariat to come together and review all the data they have, the work they have done, and compare them to indicators that are nationally set.

“The review is to allow us to see whether we met those targets, whether we were able to meet those targets, and if we were not able to meet those targets, what were the challenges, what were the reasons, what are the gaps, and then to collectively make recommendations for a way forward.” She added.
