The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has pledged to mark Abuja’s Golden Jubilee in 2026 with a large-scale infrastructure revolution across the nation’s capital.
He made this known while flagging off the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street), which connects Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) and ILS 5 within the Katampe District of Abuja.
The project, executed by the China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC) under the supervision of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), forms part of ongoing efforts to link Maitama and Gishiri and strengthen road connectivity within the city.
Wike explained that “the road is among several priority infrastructure projects being fast-tracked to ensure that Abuja’s 50th anniversary is celebrated with visible progress and lasting legacies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
He noted that the new link road complements the interchange and dual carriageway earlier commissioned by the President, and will enhance mobility, accessibility, and economic activity across the district.
The Minister commended CGC for commencing work ahead of formal contract approval, describing the company’s action as a demonstration of confidence in the FCT Administration and the Renewed Hope vision for Abuja.
According to Wike, “the project is expected to significantly boost real estate value and stimulate economic growth in the area once completed.”
He emphasised that infrastructure remains central to sustainable development and highlighted the project’s potential to create employment opportunities and promote local content utilisation.
The Minister also urged host communities to cooperate with contractors to facilitate the smooth execution and timely delivery of the project.
Highlighting other ongoing initiatives, Wike mentioned the water supply schemes in Karu, Karshi, Orozo, and Bwari, as well as the dualization of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) linking Apo and Wassa.
These, he said, “are strategic efforts to open new districts and promote balanced development across the FCT.”
On the Light-Up Abuja Project, Wike reaffirmed his determination to address challenges of sabotage and vandalism, assuring residents that the city will be fully illuminated before its 50th anniversary.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of projects under his administration, describing his role in Abuja’s transformation as a privilege and part of the capital city’s golden era of development.
He reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to fully implement President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring that the coming years would witness an unprecedented scale of infrastructure expansion across the territory.
