The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) in Niger State North Central Nigeria has embarked on a strike over the non-implementation of financial autonomy for state houses of assembly in the country.
The main entrance of the Niger State house of Assembly was closed by members of the association preventing entrance to the Assembly’s complex on Tuesday.
The strike action according to the Chairman of the Niger State chapter of the association, Comrade Muhammad Sanusi Salisu, is a result of the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum for the Government to implement the policy Nationwide.
“The autonomy, once implemented, will solve so many issues as far as control and financial activities in the State Houses of Assembly,” Salisu said.

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria had earlier set up the Presidential Implementation Committee on Financial Autonomy for State Judiciary and Legislature to ensure full implementation of financial autonomy for the states houses of assembly in the country.
“Jigawa state in the Northwestern part of Nigeria is the only state in Nigeria that granted a partial autonomy to its House of Assembly,” Sanusi added.
The Chairman of the Niger State Chapter of the Parliamentary staff association, Comrade Mohammed Sanusi Salisu, however, said with the Nationwide strike action embarked by their members, hopefully, the government will facilitate the implementation of financial autonomy to states house of Assembly.
