Former Kogi State Governor, Mr. Idris Wada, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
Ex-Governor Wada and other prominent opposition politicians in the state formally resigned their membership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Labour Party (LP), ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
Their defection to the ruling party symbolises strategic political realignment for the forthcoming elections, as politicians intensify their bid to occupy various political offices in the elections.
Former Speaker of Kogi state House of Assembly, Alfa Umar Imam; former state legislator, Mr. Friday Makama; former SDP deputy governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Sam Abenemi; former local government council chairmen, state legislators, and social media activist, Mr. Austin Okai, were among the new members of the APC in the State.
The defection ceremony, held at the Muhammadu Buhari Square, Lokoja, capital of Kogi State, North Central Nigeria, attracted APC members and party leaders across the State.

Former Governor Wada said he was impressed with the development policies of the APC at both the national and state levels of governance, as he applauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for his economic recovery agenda.
The event was not only a political event but a bustling carnival for small-scale entrepreneurs to make sales.
From food and drink vendors to souvenir hawkers, every available corner of Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre, venue of the event, was occupied by traders, eagerly waiting to cash in on the massive turnout.
