In a powerful appeal for collective action, the initiator of the Geneith Health Competition (GHC), Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, and the project’s sponsor, Mr. Emmanuel Umenwa, have commended Nigerian students for embracing the initiative as a pivotal force in the fight against malaria.

At a recent event, student leaders from the National Association of University Students (NAUS), the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NASPS), and the National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES) — represented by Comr Josiah Peter Oche, Comr Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, and Comr Edunjobi Samuel Oluwaseun respectively — were lauded for their unity, passion, and commitment to public health advocacy.

Ilobanafor praised the students for seeing the GHC as more than a competition, describing it as a growing movement toward a malaria-free Nigeria.

“Your participation in this initiative is a powerful step toward eliminating malaria,” he said.

“You are inspiring change among your peers and in your communities.”

Echoing his words, Mr. Umenwa expressed appreciation to all stakeholders — including policymakers and institutional leaders — for embracing the shared responsibility of malaria elimination.

“Students play a crucial role in this fight. Their vibrant, innovative energy is exactly what we need to drive meaningful change,” Umenwa said.

About the Competition

Powered by Coatal Forte Softgel, a potent antimalarial treatment for Plasmodium falciparum, the Geneith Health Competition is designed to break down barriers to health education and treatment access, while empowering Nigerian youths as agents of change.

The initiative includes activities such as:

  • Health workshops and seminars
  • Campus health walks
  • Community outreach programs
  • Leadership training in public health advocacy

These activities aim to teach malaria prevention, improve awareness, and nurture a new generation of health-conscious leaders.

“This is more than just a program — it’s a movement to transform health narratives in Nigeria,” said Ilobanafor.

“The energy and creativity of these young people are key to this campaign’s success.”

Students as Health Ambassadors

The initiative’s organisers have called on student participants to serve as public health ambassadors within their schools and communities.

Their role, they say, will be instrumental in reducing the socio-economic burden of malaria and influencing future health policies.

As the campaign gathers momentum, registration for the competition remains open. Interested students across Nigeria are encouraged to join the movement.
