Golden Eaglets Off To Flying Start After Beating Zambia
Two-time champions, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, secured all three points after a narrow 1-0 victory against Zambia to get its U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign off to a flying start on Sunday, at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui in Constantine, Algeria.
In the 77th minute, Nigeria’s Favour Daniel struck powerfully past the Zambian goalkeeper from a goalmouth scramble to give Nigeria the lead in the thrilling encounter.
The five-time world champions were set to take a two-goal win into their clash with Morocco on Wednesday. However, substitute Light Eke missed a penalty kick awarded two minutes into additional time and gave the Zambian goalkeeper no worries.
The match finished 1-0 in favour of Nigeria, with the Golden Eaglets claiming all three points in the thrilling encounter that opened the campaign in Group B.

Nigeria dominated for large parts of the evening, but ineffective short passes and poor shooting in front of goal denied them an avalanche of goals against a Zambian team that failed to bite.
Golden Eaglets defender Yahaya Lawali was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
