According to Mr. Kent Walker, President, of Global Affairs at Google and Alphabet, a recent poll that Ipsos performed on its behalf found that Nigerian internet users had a remarkably favourable opinion of artificial intelligence (AI).

Walker stated in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday that there was greater interest in and use of AI in Nigeria.

Walker reported that 21,000 respondents from 21 nations participated in the study, themed “Our Life with AI.”

According to him, the vast majority of Nigerian online adults surveyed in the study thought that artificial intelligence (AI) had more potential advantages than disadvantages.

“This optimism is reflected in the high adoption rate of generative AI, with 70 percent of respondents reporting that they have used AI-powered tools in the past year.

“AI is starting to deliver magic at scale, making people’s lives easier and better.

“Today’s survey results show the more people use these tools, the more excited they get about the possibilities and about the personal, professional, and scientific breakthroughs on the way.

“I am writing to share the results of a new survey conducted by Ipsos on behalf of Google, which explores the attitudes and perceptions of the online community in Nigeria towards AI,” he said.

According to the group’s head, the results showed that Nigerian internet users were very enthusiastic and hopeful about artificial intelligence.

He claims that among the survey’s important findings included: high-generative AI Adoption In Nigeria, 70% of survey respondents said they have utilised generative AI within the previous 12 months.

Walker noted that this number was higher than the global average and that 87% of Nigerian respondents to a survey on positive sentiment towards AI believed that the technology’s potential advantages outweighed its drawbacks.

He added that 81% of respondents in Nigeria are optimistic that AI would have a beneficial economic impact, demonstrating their enthusiasm for the technology’s potential advantages.

According to Walker, the study also showed that 90% of participants believe AI will advance science and medicine as one of the anticipated societal benefits.

He said, “These findings suggest that Nigeria’s online population is eager to harness the potential of AI to drive innovation and progress.

“As AI technology continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Nigerians leverage it to address various challenges and opportunities.

“These results highlight the strong belief within the surveyed online population in Nigeria that AI can play a transformative role across different areas of life, particularly within the economy and the healthcare sector.

“We believe these findings are particularly relevant for your audience and provide valuable insights into how AI is being perceived and adopted in Nigeria.”
